At Inside Trail Racing aid stations it’s like an all you can eat buffet, but this is a race, so don’t linger too long! Expect to find variety at our aid stations, including sweet and salty offerings like trail mix, pretzels, cookies, boiled potatoes with salt for dipping, regular soda, water (of course!), elecrolyte drink, PB&J finger sandwiches, gummy bears, salt tablets, you get the idea. There will also be general first aid items but no anti-inflamatory medicine. We strongly encourage you to carry at least one 20oz bottle from which to sip while you enjoy your run.

I ran the Tilden Park 1/2 marathon and was disappointed with how relentlessly steep the course was. People were mostly “hiking” up because it was faster than trying to run. Does anyone know how this (or any other) race compare to that? I just mean as far as elevation and how quickly it is reached. Don’t get me wrong, I love to climb and I love trails but, to me, it was ridiculous..

The hills in Tilden are indeed very difficult. The China Camp half marathon has 2 hills that are worth mentioning. The first hill is at mile 1.5, it starts off steep for a few hundred meters then transitions to a very runnable grade. The second hill is at mile 9, or so. It is a much more gradual climb, which makes it much longer as well. The China Camp course is quite a bit easier than our Berkeley Half.

Thanks for the info. I ran the Berkeley Tilden Park Trail run 35K and it nearly killed me :) The Troy Almeden run 10 days ago was also hard for half marathon which has a 3600 feet incline. Nice to know that it’s a lot easier. Look forward to the half.

Just ran the China Camp loop last weekend and the inclines there are definitely more runnable than Tilden or Marin Headlands. Enjoy!

I’d like to do the 10K, but want to make sure this is an event for people of all athletic abilities. I have run 10K’s before, but am definitely on the slower end – mostly run as a way to enjoy amazing norcal scenery. Is this mostly an elite athlete event? Or do all abilities participate?

JB – We welcome runners and hikers of all abilities at our events. Would love to have you out there… it’s a beautiful course, so you’ll definitely be able to take in some amazing scenery ;)

    • Karen

JB – There are all shapes, sizes and abilities out there. Just have a good time!

I’m signed up for the half and will be able to hang around until around 2. If you have a spot I can volunteer after my race just let me know. Looking forward to it!
