Race Information

Inside Trail is proud to showcase this event.  Meticulous effort went into the design of the 50k and 50 mile courses.  They are challenging (50 Mile has over 10,000 ft climb) and beautiful.  Every step of the race is run on fresh ground with no overlapping.  Jim Vernon from The Endurables spent hours and weekends developing this custom, brand new course and we are super excited to show it off.  In fact, we’re so excited, we are offering a little chunk of prize money!!  In the 50 mile race:  Male/Female 1st-$250, 2nd-$150, 3rd-$100, along with special awards for both distances and age groups.

With La Sportiva as our 2013 partner and Suunto and Hydrapak as our Marin Ultra Challenge sponsors, we will be giving away two free La Sportiva shoes and A LOT of Hydrapak gear, including the E-Lite Vest, Soft Flasks, and water bottles, along with other special raffle awards. Suunto is providing an Ambit GPS watch to each of the overall winners (male & female) in both the 50K and 50 Mile.

Starting just steps away from historic Fort Baker, in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge, runners may fill their lungs with fresh salt air before embarking on a journey through some of the best trails the Marin Headlands has to offer, including the beautiful views of Coastal Trail and the inland buffed single track of the Miwok. You’ll travel along the coast, by Pirate’s Cove, to Muir Beach. From there, you’ll quietly pass through the Zen center and up the incredible new Middle Green Gulch hill. Your journey will ultimately end with amazing vistas of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge from the SCA and Coastal trails… all the way back to the finish at Cavallo Point. Aid stations will be packed with all the goodies you love, plus a generous helping of delicious Clif Products!

We’re capping the race at 288 people.  So, register early!

Expect to find variety at our aid stations, including sweet and salty offerings like trail mix, pretzels, cookies, boiled potatoes with salt for dipping, Pepsi, Mountain Dew, water, Tailwind Electrolyte Drink, PB&J finger sandwiches, M&M’s, Mike & Ike’s, bananas, oranges, salt tablets, you get the idea. There will also be general first aid items but no anti-inflamatory medicine. We strongly encourage you to carry at least one 20oz water bottle to tide you over between aid stations.

Wicked cool route. I know all the trails like the back of my hand by have never dared stitch them all together like you have. Just might have to make it my goal to join you out there!
    Keep running!

  • Scott Sambucci

Hello – I’ve been looking for info about a shuttle to the starting line. Is there one? Or do racers drive to the starting point. Thanks.

    • Anonymous

Participants drive to the start/finish area.

  • Mitch K.

Will there be the ability for a drop bag for the 50 milers?

  • Adam

Any rules on pacers or drop bags for the 50M?

  • Gabby Hayes

Hi Guys, For those old timers doing the 50 K, I take it that they’ve got until the door closes for the 50 milers (14 hours)? Thanks. JR

    • Emily

I wonder the same thing… This is my first ultra so I have no idea how I will do…

  • Anonymous

Event page is updated with drop bag and pacer information.

  • Dejswa

Is there a list of cutoffs?

  • Ken Zemach

    Hi, quick aid station question:

For each race, where and how many aid stations are there? I’m trying to pre-plan what to carry, e.g. hydration vest or single water bottle. Knowing the aid station locations and distances between would be super, super helpful. In fact, super-imposing those on the elevation charts would do the trick. Thanks.

  • Emily

Approximately how many participants are running the 50K or the 50 mile event?

Looks like great timing for a TRT 100 training run, I think this is happening, thanks Jim/Tim, nice work on this one!

  • Pon

Are all aid stations accessible to crews? Specifically, is mile 31.4 accessible?

  • Brettselvy

Where at Stinson Beach will the race run by at the 26 mile mark? I am a family member of one of the runners and am planning to be at Stinson Beach to watch him run by, but where should I be stationed by???? THANKS!

Did you guys decide if you will be giving medals? This is my frist 50 miler and it’d be nice to have a finishers medal if I finish.

    • http://www.insidetrail.com/ Tim Stahler

Brian – We are going to have medals, in addition to our “normal” branded pint glasses for all finishers. Lots of stuff to give away on race day! We’ll see you next week :) Best of luck on your first 50 miler!

      • Brian Ko

Going back to that “if I finish” part….
